Artist Statement

I have a lifelong love of photography and will always continue its pursuit. My wildlife photography practice reflects the relationship between bird and environment – through literal environmental portraiture – and connects me to my own sense of place. The process of wildlife photography serves as antidote to the screen time required for my day job. Through immersion and observation, I can reconnect with the hyperlocal natural world around us.
In final form, my photographs strive to honor their subjects and reflect the connections between them. My process is two-part, first to capture to the moment, then to elicit the most impactful expression of that moment. My initial approach is mostly documentary – I seek to capture and highlight moments of connection between members of a family or of a band, between musician and audience, or simply a bird in its environment. In post-processing, I select for the most impactful moments and elevate them through editorial and artistic choices.

Artist Bio

I am a lifelong Pacific Northwest resident. I've been taking photos for over 20 years, gradually moving from film to digital, point and shoot to dSLR and finally telephoto. I consider myself a perpetual learner, and I keep coming back to photography day after day and year after year.
