Barrie D'Angelo

Painting / drawing / mixed media (2 dimensional)

Artist Statement

My imagery is drawn from the world of plants, the local built environment and my own domestic spaces. Inspiration is taken from my love of ornate decorative art and intricate picture book illustrations from my childhood. I want viewers to get close and really look at my work; to find the drama in a flower, or the excitement in discovering a hidden detail. I hope that people come away from my art feeling intrigued, inspired and delighted.
I am an artist and a mother. Much of my current work focuses on natural forms and a fascination with the structures of flowers and trees. Being a mother and a woman informs the way I view the natural world. Flowers are seen as inherently feminine and as a woman and a feminist I seek to explore both the cultural implications of a floral image and the strength, order AND chaos that flowers convey.

Artist Bio

When she was a parent of young children, Barrie adapted to mainly drawing and painting on a small scale and has found that she loves it. Her work is in ink, watercolor and acrylic.
