Artist Statement
As a life-long observer of the natural world that surrounds us all, my work is inspired and informed by that world.
I am currently working with watercolor for its fluid and sometimes unpredictable nature – it suits the loose, whimsical, slightly abstracted floral themed work I create. Over the last six years I have honed my floral representations to reflect that style and I have turned many of the smaller works into note/art cards.
Concurrently, I create mixed media collage pieces using mono printed papers; many are abstracted botanical themes or reflect natural elements found in nature.
Artist Bio
My professional background is in printing and graphic design.
My art making journey began in earnest with a drawing class at South Seattle College (2004); I continued attending SSC taking studio drawing, design and painting classes for the next 15 years (2x/week). I have attended many classes and workshops at Gage Academy (life drawing; pastel workshops, botanical drawing, and mono printing);
and attended several workshops at Dakota Art Pastels in Mt. Vernon (Diana Sanford). These varied explorations of technique, media and instruction have helped me think critically and also freed me to to find my voice in creating art. Experimentation is what keeps me excited and interested in creating art.
