Artist Statement

Phil Jones: Artist Statement 2026

My art originates from my home studio near Seattle’s Alki Beach, where I translate the raw, authentic beauty of the Pacific Northwest into vibrant watercolor narratives. I focus on "Northwest Maritime" imagery, capturing not just the visual essence of the Puget Sound region, but the enduring spirit and rich folklore of the local seafaring lifestyle.
As a lifelong sailor, my work is informed by an intimate understanding of the water and the vessels that navigate it. I meticulously capture the intricate details of each boat, emphasizing the accurate representation of working conditions and the integrity of the craft. This commitment to realism is achieved through a precise application of color and shading, leveraging the unique properties of the watercolor medium to create unmatched depth and precision.
