Artist Statement

“The wound is where the light can enter.” — Rumi
My work explores the tension between fragility and strength through the transformative nature of glass. I am drawn to its paradoxes—delicate yet resilient, luminous yet vulnerable—qualities that mirror my life experiences.
I begin intuitively, allowing form to emerge through observation and response. Using kiln-formed processes and sculptural lampworking, I experiment with firing schedules, frit designs, and organic structures that echo our beautiful nature. Unpredictability is welcomed; glass may slump, stretch, or fracture, and these fire-born gestures become integral to the work. Imperfection becomes a site of transformation.
Light is central—moving through fractures and edges, revealing hidden depth. Personal experiences, including family life and health challenges, express the emotional core of my practice. Each piece becomes a vessel for healing and reflection, inviting viewers to consider how resilience and beauty often emerge through the very fractures that shape us. Thank you for your engagement and support. ~Rebecca
