Printmaking

Artist Statement

I’m a first-generation Cuban-American artist with a vibrant creative practice as a printmaker. Drawing from experience in both photography and painting, my artistic process merges these disciplines into a cohesive visual language, infused with the bold color that has become my signature.

When creating prints, I begin by either photographing my subjects or digitally illustrating my ideas (sometimes a combination of both), and carving them into printing blocks using specific small knives. Each print becomes a playful experiment in color, as I explore different combinations with every press.

At the heart of my practice is a desire to spark both visual and emotional joy through color, whimsy, and an unapologetically playful artistic style.

Artist Bio

Sahily Anais Perez McMillan is a first-generation Cuban-American artist whose vibrant artistic background is rooted in her South Florida upbringing. For nearly a decade, she has been bringing bold color and energy to her community in the Pacific Northwest. A lifelong artist, Sahily has explored a wide range of mediums—from acrylic and body paint to makeup artistry—always using her brush as a tool for self-expression.

In 2021, Sahily discovered printmaking and was immediately drawn to its calming, repetitive, and meditative nature. Today, she fuses her eclectic artistic background and deep passion for color theory to create playful, vivid prints inspired by nature, retro aesthetics, and pop culture.

Beyond her studio practice, Sahily is the founder and curator of the Burien Little Art Museum, a charming micro-gallery located in her front yard. She also serves on the board of Burien Arts, where she channels her commitment to building community and expanding access to the arts as the co-chair of the Burien Community Center gallery wall for emerging artists.
