Paper art (other than printmaking)
Artist Statement
My enduring passion for creation is captured in my life motto: "Busy hands equal a smile on my face."
Some of my current work focuses on my deep affinity for paper, manifesting in collage, monoprinting, watercolor, and drawing. Driven by a desire for variety, I have explored several other mediums, including ceramics, jewelry and metalsmithing, intaglio printmaking, and mixed media. In my art, I am most drawn to the interplay of texture and color. I find inspiration in the design principles of balance and unity, and I am a big fan of symmetry and harmony. My newest collection marks a return to jewelry and metalsmithing. These pieces are characterized by a focus on texture and kinetic elements.
Artist Bio
With a BA in Art History and an MA in Art Education, my approach blends historical understanding with class room and art studio practice. I've refined my conceptual and technical skills through studies at institutions like California College of the Arts, Sitka Center for Art and Ecology, and Pratt Fine Arts. My exhibition history ranges from small galleries to larger-scale shows, reflecting the varied scope of my work and my desire to connect with different audiences. I'm a long-time Westy and am in my twentieth year teaching art at Explorer West Middle School. This long-standing role as an educator is reciprocal; my students' energy and insights continually enrich my creative process. My work as an artist and educator are intrinsically linked.
