Artist Statement

The continual pull I feel as an artist is one of striving to represent my unique experience of nature and its many botanical wonders. Pattern, movement and color are some of the elements I choose to highlight using scale, texture and a narrowed focus. Working with my hands is a long thread that runs through my life so while I typically start with a drawing it is merely a roadmap for the most enjoyable step in bringing my ideas to life which is sculpting clay. Whether I’m carving directly from a slab or adding layers to carve and shape, I’m always thinking about how to call attention to that little bit of beauty nature has so generously provided.

Artist Bio

Terri Goodwin is a Seattle artist best known for combining her handcrafted ceramic tile with concrete resulting in unique mixed media artworks suitable for hanging in multiple environments. After earning a BA in Design from UCLA she spent her early career as a graphic designer for small companies in the San Francisco Bay Area and Seattle while continuing to explore hands-on creative work. Terri’s experiences with mosaic art led to a desire to create her own ceramic tiles and cast them directly into concrete setting them apart and calling attention to their unique shapes and bright glazes. In 2010 she founded Bright River Studio as a place to combine her passion for tile and concrete with the inspiration of the Pacific Northwest.
